It began on that hot girl summer day in Times Square, when a pregnancy test displayed two pink lines in a hotel bathroom. The test must have been wrong, I thought, it was generic. Two boxes of branded pregnancy tests later and numerous scattered thoughts, the tiny digital reading appeared: Pregnant.
I wanted to scream for joy, I wanted to kiss my husband, but I couldn't because this question of "what about my job?" kept flashing in various neon colors throughout my brain along with tiny bold thoughts of "oh shit I'm pregnant" and "this is going to hurt."
Shortly thereafter, I discovered how Americans are offered barely any maternity rights. I thought to myself, this cannot be right or even legal, but I was wrong. To my dismay, I was forced into deciding whether to secure my job or to raise my child. From there, theAcup.com was birthed.
I invite you to activate your voice and together we will demand the meaningful maternity rights that women deserve.
Sincerely, Mrs. M.
